Return to Minnkota Power Cooperative

Project Status

Minnkota continues to work through the permitting process for the Center to Grand Forks (CGF) Project. The drop-down boxes below explain the federal and state permitting processes required for this Project. In addition to working with the lead federal and state permitting agencies, the CGF Project team has begun meeting with landowners along all proposed route options.

As shown in the federal permitting process drop-down box below, it is anticipated that the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) will issue the Environmental Assessment (EA) for public review in July 2010.

Environmental Permitting Steps

Federal Permitting Process – Rural Utilities Service

RUS is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for potential routes within the CGF Project macro-corridors.  All comment topics identified in the scoping report will be addressed in the EA. The Scoping Report is available under the “RUS Documents” tab located near the bottom of the Resources Page.

Upon completion of the EA, estimated in July 2010, a public comment period will follow.  The EA will be published by the Rural Utilities Service and available on the RUS Web site and on this Center to Grand Forks Project Web site.

State Permitting Process – North Dakota Public Service Commission
Minnkota will also apply for two permits from the North Dakota Public Service Commission (PSC): a Certificate of Corridor Compatibility and a Route Permit.

Future Public Opportunities

Throughout the federal and state permitting process, the public will have a number of opportunities to get involved in the process as shown in the timeline graphic below.

The project is anticipated to be completed by early 2013. Minnkota will continue to provide information to the public as the Project progresses.
